Delphi Murders Trial: Girls Found with Throats Cut, One Nude, Prosecutor Says

Opening statements were scheduled for Friday in a double murder trial for Richard Allen, accused of killing two teenage girls in Delphi, Indiana.

As CrineOnlibe previously reported, Allen, from Delphi, faces charges for the deaths of Abigail “Abby” Williams and Liberty “Libby” German. The two girls vanushed on February 13, 2017, and their bodies were found the next day near the Monon High Bridge in Carroll County.

By Thursday, a 12-member jury and four alternates were selected and sworn in. The jury will remain sequestered for the duration of the trial.

Prosecutor Nicholas McLeland told the jury Friday they would view crime scene photos from the wooded area near the Monon High Bridge Trail, stating the girls had their throats slashed. One victim was clothed and the other was nude.

Defense attorney Andrew Baldwin argued that the case against Allen carries substantial reasonable doubt, AP News reports.

Baldwin questioned the hair evidence and suggested the girls may have entered a vehicle at some stage.

The defense also argued that police arrested the wrong person and pointed to Odinism, a pagan Norse religion associated with some White supremacist groups, as a possible link to the killings.

The trial continues. Check back for updates.
