A North Carolina man was fatally shot on Saturday in an apparent road rage incident hours after his wedding.
Tyrek Burton, 37, was killed at the Barber Park Events Center in Greensboro. His sister told WLS-TV that Burton was leaving the venue hours after his wedding when he learned from his wife that she was still at the venue, not at home like he initially believed.
“He made a U-turn and I guess didn’t see somebody. Cut them off and that person followed him back to the park,” she said.
According to WGHP, the driver confronted Burton and wanted to know who cut him off at the stop sign. Burton allegedly said, “If I did, I’m sorry,” before the driver opened fire and fled the scene.
“My brother didn’t know this man at all, They never met. He didn’t ask him what his name was. They never shook hands. This was a complete[ly] random stranger, and he shot him in cold blood,” she told the news outlet.
Burton’s sister said his daughter and new wife witnessed the shooting. Despite this, no arrests have been made.
“It was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of his life, and it turned into something tragic,” Burton’s sister said.
A reward is being offered in this case. Anyone with information regarding Burton’s shooting death is asked to call Greensboro Guilford Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
