A 17-year-old Texas boy was arrested this week and charged with the shooting death of the 37-year-old stepfather of a girl who rebuffed his advances.
The Houston Police Department said that Christian Gasca Martinez has been charged with murder in the death of Osvaldo Casas on August 10.
Police said they believed that Casas confronted a suspicious person on his street prior to the shooting.
Casas died in the arms of his pregnant wife, Judith Molina, who gave birth to a son days after the murder, KHOU reported.
Court documents say that Martinez was stalking Casas’ 16-year-old stepdaughter, the station said.
“The allegations are that the 17-year-old defendant briefly dated the … 16-year-old daughter,” a judge said at a hearing on Thursday. “The daughter stopped seeing this defendant after the defendant assaulted and unlawfully restrained her. The defendant repeatedly called the daughter until she blocked the defendant’s phone number.”
Martinez also reportedly posted threats on social media, including sending photographs of himself holding a gun. Molina said the two never dated but that Martinez was upset “that she wanted to do nothing with him.”
“So, he was stalking her, stalking our house for days,” she said.
Martinez was ordered held on a $200,000 bond and is due in court Monday.
