A 30-year-old Houston woman was charged with murder on Wednesday after she allegedly tossed her 17-month-old daughter out of a a third story window of a Galveston hotel.
Witnesses reported seeing the incident, and police found the baby girl wrapped in a sheet barely alive between a grocery store and the Beachfront Palms Hotel. Hannah Yonko was russed to a hospital but died there, Galveston Police Chief Doug Balli told the Galveston County Daily News.
The child’s mother, Channel Yonko, has been charged with capital murder.
“It’s tragic for everyone involved,” Balli said. “No first responder ever wants to respond to the scene where a child is so injured that they may not make it. My heart goes out to all those involved.”
Investigators have not said what caused the child’s death, but Balli said the little girl had injuries consistent with a “significant” fall as well as injures that appear to have occurred before Wednesday.
Investigators are looking or surveillance video from the area for information that may be helpful. Meanwhile, Yonko was denied bond Thursday morning, KRIV reported.
