4-Year-Old Boy, Left Alone in Car, Finds Loaded, Unsecured Gun and Shoots Himself

The mother of a 4-year-old California boy was arrested on Friday after the child found a loaded, unsecured gun in her car and shot himself.

Latisha Walker, 26, left her son in the car while she went inside a business, according to KCRA.

Shynice Cordoba, a witness, said she was having her nails done at a spa nearby and ran outside when she heard yelling.

“He wanted me to pick him up,” she said. “But I had to reassure him and tell him, no, you can’t get up. You have to stay here. And we talked about Paw Patrol and how old he was and stuff. Until they got here.”

Cordoba said the boy said repeatedly, “I shot myself, I shot myself.”

Walker was booked on several charges including criminal storage of a firearm and endangering the life of a child.

Her bail was set at $75,000, and she bonded out the next day, People said. The boy is expected to recover.
