Police on Long Island identified the victim of the shocking murder at a luxury spa resort as Sabina Rosas, an artist and native of Tajikistan who lives in Brooklyn, and said a suspect in her murder has killed himself.
Law enforcement sources told WABC that the suspect, apparently the 33-year-old Rosas’ boyfriend, checked into Shou Sugi Ban House with her and was seen leaving alone Monday morning. They had been looking for him since that time.
Police said Thomas Gannon, 56, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot at his Suffolk County home.
The body of Rosas, also known as Sabina Khorramdel, was found early Monday afternoon in her room by a spa employee, as CrimeOnline reported. Police said it was clear she was the “victim of violence” but have provided no further information.
Khorramdel was the founder of ROYO Journal, a platform for Central Asian artists.
“A beautiful soul and a gifted artist, she left an impactful legacy in the arts of Central Asia,” the group said. “The world feels empty without her.”
Khorramdel’s family issued a statement saying she was “our beloved daughter, sister, fiancee and friend.”
“As the eldest of three daughters, Sabina brought excitement, adventure, joy and love to our family,” read the statement in part. “We are devastated by this senseless loss and ask for privacy as we navigate this incredibly difficult time.”
Khorramdel was apparently married and separated from her husband, according to the New York Daily News, which spoke with someone who identified themselves as the victim’s husband’s roommate.
“I think everyone is in shock,”according to the roommate, who said the roommate flew to New York on Tuesady to speak with police.
According to a biography of Khorramdel for the nonprofit Harvestworks’ 2021 Technology Immersion Program, Khorramdel lived in Turkmenistan and Crimea before moving to the United States alone in 2009. She graduated from Purchase College with a degree in new media in 2020, Newsday reported.
She was arrested in Miami last year for battery and is seen in a mug shot with a black eye, according to The UK tabloid The Daily Mail.
