Delphi Murders Trial: Psychologist Recounts Accused Killer Richard Allen’s Bizarre Behavior

Testimony continues Friday in the  trial of accused Delphi killer, Richard Allen, accused of murdering two girls in 2017z

On Thursday, Dr. Monica Waller, who identified herself as a psychologist who evaluated Allen at the Westville Correctional Facility, said he started confessing to the murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German in April 2023. She said Allen provided a step-by-step account of the killings, with many details matching the crime scene evidence.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Libby, 14, and Abby, 13, were walking on the Monon High Bridge in Carroll County when they were murdered and left in the woods on February 13, 2017.

Allen, arrested five years later in 2022, has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.

According to the psychologist, Allen said he initially intended to rape the girls but got spooked by a passing vehicle and instead slashed their throats.

It’s unclear whether he had access to crime scene information from his lawyers at that time, Indy Star reports.

Allen’s defense team argued that the confessions should be dismissed due to his mental instability. Instead, they’re pushing for evidence to be submitted to the jury that blames the killings on an Odinism ritual.

Special Judge Frances Gull previously blocked Allen’s attorneys from presenting their theory to jurors, stating they lack admissible evidence linking Odinism to the crimes.

However, the defense filed more motions during the trial, asking Gull to allow specific evidence associated with Odinism.

They argued that testimony from prosecution witnesses during the trial’s first 10 day should allow them to present Norse Paganism.

Judge Gull has yet to make a decision on the defense’s reauest.

The trial continues. Check back for updates.
