A 23-year-old Michigan man has been charged with killing his own mother during a home invasion at her Keeler Township house.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office said it was called to a home in the Sister Lakes area at about 5:15 a.m. Thursday for a breaking and entering in progress.
When they arrived, they found 55-year-old Gloria White unresponsive in the home. Despite live-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead.
They found Aidan Andrew White, Gloria White’s son, nearby and arrested him on charges of murder and home invasion.
According to WBND, Gloria White, an art teacher at Dowagiac Union Schools, made the 911 call herself, reporting that “her son was breaking-in and gave dispatchers his name prior to him gaining entry.”
He broke in and killed her before police could arrive.
Dowagiac Union Schools Superintendent Greg Blomgren shared the news of White’s death in a message to parents and said that crisis response team would be available to assist students in the coming days.
“As we work through grief and treasured memories of our beloved art teacher, let’s stand together and surround her classroom and building staff members with love and support,” he wrote.
Aidan White was given a $2 million bond with a hearing set for December 11, the sheriff’s office said.
