An Iowa man who allegedly killed his 5-year-old son on Tuesday had his bond set at $1 million.
The Gazette reported that Jack Schleier’s mother told paramedics who responded to their Marion home that the boy was strangled by his father, Matthew Schleier, 45. Schleier allegedly not only told authorities that he thought about killing his son for for the past week, and he admitted that he spent the whole night thinking about if and how he would do it.
According to The Gazette, Schleier said he considered using knives. Knives reportedly seized from the home which proved the slaying was premeditated, court documents say.
KCRG reported that medical personnel found bruising around the 5-year-old’s neck which was consistent with strangulation. Schleier allegedly also confessed to strangling his son during a formal interview with investigators.
Schleier, a vice president for Iowa insurance company United Fire Group, remains jailed on murder charges. Citing records, The Gazette reported that police had not responded to the home before Tuesday’s incident.
