MN Suspect in Custody After Sparking AMBER Alert, Abducting 4 Children and Killing Adult: Police

A Minnesota man is in custody after police say he killed one person and abducted a pregnant woman and her four children, prompting an AMBER Alert.

According to police, Chad Aanerud, 35, was arrested at a traffic stop in Morrison County at around 7:15 a.m. Friday.

An AMBER Alert was canceled after police found the woman and children unharmed inside his car.

Before discovering the victims in the vehicle, police found 62-year-old Lyle Maske shot dead on Loerch Road around 1:50 a.m. Friday. The suspect is accused of killing Maske and burning down a nearby home.

”Drugs are involved, so the thing becomes a cluster. So I’m not sure who’s related to who, and what relationship he is even to that house, and if he even knew the victim,” Crow Wing County Sheriff Eric Klang told the Minnesota Star Tribune.

“So we’re trying to develop that right now.”

Police then discovered that Aanerud allegedly abducted his girlfriend, 33, and her children, ages 3 to 14.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension reports that Aanerud fired a shot into the house where the mom and children were staying, forcing the victims to leave with the suspect.

“He fired a rifle round into the ceiling of the residence and forced Dobson and her children to leave with him,” the BCA said, according to the Star Tribune.

The suspect remains in custody. Check back for updates.
