A Florida man called a relative Friday night and said he’d just killed his wife and then, apparently, killed himself at a Tampa hotel.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after Weleska Gomez Baroeta’s relatives reported her missing just after 9 p.m. Her body was found three hours later in a car parked in downtown Tampa.
Investigators learned that her husband and the suspect in her murder, 31-year-old Franklin Vegas Delgado, had dumped the car at the spot and fled the on foot.
A little more than an hour after that, police found Vegas Delgado dead from self-inflicted gunshot wounds at the Marriott Waterside Hotel next door to the parking lot where he abandoned the car with his wife’s body.
“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This is an unimaginable loss and a painful reminder that violence is never the answer.”
