Arrest Made in Florida Mom & Daughter’s 2016 Disappearance

A Florida man was arrested last week and charged in the disappearance and presumed death of a woman he had an affair with and the child that resulted from that affair.

Gustavo Castano Restrepo was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of kidnapping resulting in death in the disappearances of Liliana Moreno and her 8-year-old daughter, Daniella, who vanished without a trace on May 30, 2016, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida.

Restrepo was a “person of interest” in the disappearance almost from the start, but he insisted he had nothing to do with their death although he was the last person seen with them.

Restrepo told investigators he had dropped them off at a Home Depot just off Florida’s turnpike, NBC News reported. A few days later, police found a suicidal Restrepo in the Home Depot parking lot with self-inflicted stab wounds. In a confrontation with officers, he was tased and ultimately lost his right eye.

When they searched Moreno’s Doral home, they found unfinished meal preparations and personal belongings, including her driver’s license, passport, and credit and debit cards. Her car was still in the parking lot, WFOR said.

Liliana Moreno’s brother said her family is happy that an arrest finally took place, even if it took more than eight years.

“For us, this is something unbelievable and this was not expected to happen,” said Eduardo Moreno. “To hear that he is under arrest is a surprise. They were so cheerful and she was always working. She did everything great and then she disappeared. We still don’t know where they are or where they are.”
