Kansas Man Surrenders After Standoff: Police Find Two People, Neighbor’s Dog Dead

After a two-hour standoff, the suspect was taken into custody, and two dead bodies were found inside the home.

Fox 4 reports that on Friday in Lenexa, Kansas, Todd Michael Donovan, 53, was arrested after allegedly shooting and killing two relatives.

A call came into the Lenexa Police Department reporting sounds of gunfire. Officers responded to the call, arriving at Hallet Street and Mullen Road shortly before 8:30 p.m., where they heard multiple gunshots.

Lenexa officers spoke by phone with the suspected shooter and confirmed he was still inside the house. The Lenexa Tactical Team and crisis negotiators were called in after Donovan refused officers’ requests to exit peacefully.

After two hours of negotiations, Donovan disconnected the call.

The tactical team took Donovan into custody shortly before 2 a.m. At the time of his arrest, he appeared to have overdosed and was transported to a local hospital.

After Donovan was removed from the scene, officers found two dead bodies inside the home. They also discovered that a neighbor’s dog had been shot and killed during the incident.

On Saturday, the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office charged Donovan with two counts of first-degree murder. He is accused of killing Tyler Donovan and Sheila Donovan, according to KMBC.

The case remains under investigation by Lenexa detectives and members of the Johnson County Crime Lab. Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call the Crimestoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
