A father and mother attempted to kidnap their teenage daughter from her school bus stop.
Ihsan Ali, 44, and his wife, Zahraa Subhi Mohsin Ali, 40, were arrested on October 18 in Lacey, Washington, after they attempted to kidnap their 17-year-old daughter outside Timberline High School.
During the attempt, Ihsan Ali choked his daughter until she lost consciousness, witnesses reported, according to The Olympian. Once the teen was freed by her boyfriend and other concerned witnesses, her mother allegedly also grabbed her by the neck.
During the scuffle, the girl’s boyfriend was punched by Ihsan Ali and sustained a boxer’s fracture to one of his fingers while trying to save his girlfriend.
The parents were abducting their daughter to take her overseas for an arranged marriage. Their goal was to marry her off to an older man. According to court records, her father threatened to kill her in an “honor killing” if she did not comply with their demands, The Chronicle reported.
The Olympian reported that on Tuesday, Thurston County Superior Court upgraded the charges against the Alis.
The father was originally accused of first-degree attempted kidnapping, domestic violence, and second-degree assault, domestic violence, as well as fourth-degree assault in Thurston County Superior Court on October 23, according to The Chronicle. Those charges were upgraded to include second-degree attempted murder, domestic violence.
The mother’s original charges were second-degree assault, domestic violence, second-degree burglary, and violation of a protection order, according to The Chronicle. Her charges were upgraded to include second-degree attempted murder, domestic violence, as well.
