Nebraska police arrested five people on Monday after a boy younger than three was reportedly discovered in a locked cage.
According to WABI, a tip led Carrolton police to a home where they found the toddler in a padlocked wooden and metal enclosure. The discovery led to the arrest of five suspects: Brenda Chilton, 71; William Mahoney, 72; Codey Johnson, 29; Tammy Simmons, 52; and Shelby Turocy, 28.
WCPO reported that Turocy had methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, resulting in additional charges.
Two other children were removed from the home in light of Monday’s search warrant.
Chilton, Mahoney, Johnson, Simmons, and Turocy are charged with criminal abuse and wanton endangerment. Turocy was also charged with drug possession.
It is unclear how the five suspects are connected to the boy. The boy’s condition was not disclosed.
