Colorado Man Defies Protection Order to Kill His Own Mother

A Colorado man released from jail on a $250 bond after he threatened a woman and put a police officer in a chokehold is now in jail on a significantly higher bond after he allegedly murdered his mother.

Michael Fuller, 30, has been charged with murder in the death of his mother, 71-year-old Toni Fuller in Loveland on Friday, KUSA reported.

Police were called just before 7 p.m. for a welfare check by Fuller’s daughter, who said she was unable to reach her mother. Arriving officers said that Michael Fuller was at the home and refused to answer the door, according to KCNC. The officers could see a body through the back door of the home and forced entry.

An autopsy found that Toni Fuller died from blunt and sharp force injuries.

Fuller had been arrested on October 9 after he allegedly attacked a woman who was walking her dog in Namaqua Park.

“This victim was screaming for her life,” Loveland Police Chief Tim Doran said. “An individual in the park was chasing her. She had to retreat into the Big Thompson River.”

The woman used pepper spray to keep the man away from her until police officers arrived to find Fuller standing in the river. He refused to surrender, and the officers had to physically get him out. Doran said Fuller got his arm around the neck of an officer and pushed him into the river. A second officer reported minor injuries.

At a bond hearing a judge set Fuller’s bond at $250, which he paid and was released. It’s not clear how much of the incident was revealed in court — an affidavit noted that Fuller got his arm around the officer’s neck but did not mention the attack took place in the river, and it didn’t say that the original victim used pepper spray to keep Fuller away from her. He was charged only with the attack on the officer.

According to KUSA, Fuller’s father filed for a protection order in 2022 for both him and Toni Fuller saying the son became physically abusive when drinking or using drugs. “Threats of violence is always there,” he wrote in the filing, adding that he’d installed locks on bedroom doors.

The door to the bedroom in the home was found smashed open, police said. In addition to murder, Michael Fuller was charged with violation of a protective order and tampering with physical evidence.
