VERDICT WATCH: Accused Delphi Killer’s Fate Now in Hands of Jury

Accused Delphi killer Richard Allen’s fate is in the hands of an Indiana jury as deliberations into his double murder trial begins.

“I think we all want justice,” Piper Hanan, of Noblesville, told NBC 13. “I think that would be the ideal endpoint.”

As CrineOnline previously reported, the bodies of  teen girls Abby Williams and Libby German were found near the Monon High Bridge in 2017, in Delphi. Richard Allen, is accused of their murders.

After 17 days of testimony, the prosecution and defense began their closing arguments at 9 a.m. yesterday. The jury will now  decide whether to convict Allen of murdering 13-year-old Abby and 14-year-old Libby.

Libby’s video captured a blurry image of a man who told the girls to “go down the hill.” Indiana State Police attempted to enhance the video, but the quality of the image did not improve and it remains unclear if the man was actually Allen.

The footage shows that Bridge Guy wore light blue jeans and a blue jacket. However, one witness reported seeing someone she thought was Bridge Guy, who was covered in mud and blood and wearing a tan jacket.

The Journal & Courier reports that witnesses identified Bridge Guy as possibly 6 feet tall, young, and with “poofy” hair. Allen’s attorneys noted in their closing arguments that he  stands 5 feet, 5 inches tall.

ISP Lt. Jerry Holeman stated it would cost $10,000 to conduct an accurate height analysis of Bridge Guy from the video, but investigators decided to focus their resources elsewhere. The defense highlighted this decision in closing arguments.

Further, Indiana State Police lab tests showed that markings on the bullet found near the girls matched those of Allen’s Sig Sauer 226. However, this was based only on comparisons between the unfired bullet and shell casings fired from his pistol.

The jury continues its deliberations.
