Three people in Texas were arrested on Monday after they locked a 6-year-old child into an operating dryer at a laundrymat and refused to let him out.
According to Harris County Constable Mark Herman’s Office, deputies were called to the Hi Tek Washeteria by other patrons and found the child “visibly shaking and crying.”
When the deputies tried to detain the suspects, a man fled the scene, and a woman stepped in front of the deputy and shoved him when he tried to pursue.
The woman, 19-year-old Life Ford, was detained along with the third suspect, identified as Haven Duncan, 18, who was carrying a loaded firearm.
Police eventually located the man who fled, identifying him as Jaqory Gill, 20.
Investigators said the child was in the care of all three adults and became upset after losing a bag of chips. Duncan allegedly put the boy into the dryer and secured the door, while Ford and Gill also refused to let the boy out until the chips were located.
Bystanders said the child was in the dryer for about five minutes before they called 911.
According to KTRK, surveillance video showed one of the suspects helping Haven hold the door while the third suspect put money in the machine at let it run for about a minute.
The boy was evaluated by medics and released into the custody of a guardian who arrived on the scene, the constable’s office said.
Haven has been charged with child endangerment, Ford was charged with interfering with the duties of a public servant, and Gill was charged with evading on foot. Ford and Gill’s bonds were set at $100, the constable’s office said, while jail records show was given a $75,000 bond.
