An Indiana man was found dead in a Planet Fitness tanning bed Monday morning, three days after he entered the south Indianapolis gym.
Gym members said they noticed a foul smell Monday morning that was worse near the tanning rooms, WTHR said.
Derek Sink’s family reported him missing on Friday, but he wasn’t found until Monday despite wearing an ankle monitor that police said helped them determine he never left the gym after arriving, as CrimeOnline reported.
Family told the station that the 39-year-old had a drug problem and that needle was found in the room with his dead body. The cause of death has not been determined.
Police confirmed they were investigating but provided no further information.
Planet Fitness issued a statement saying they were “working closely with our local franchisee” to make sure “brand protocols” are upheld.
