Indiana authorities said on Wednesday that they’d found human remains in the same area where a missing mother of three was last seen in September.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and detectives from Indiana State Police recovered the remains from a wooded property in southern Indiana and sent them for a forensic examination to determine a cause and manner of death and an identification.

The results will take about six to eight weeks, the sheriff’s office said.

Family of Amanda Martin, 40, said they last spoke with her on September 13, and she was at that time believed to be in eastern Scott County.

“Numerous attempts by Sheriff’s Deputies to locate Amanda Martin have not been successful,” officials said in late September, WXIN reported. “We feel she is in extreme danger due to a medical or mental illness.”

The sheriff’s office did not say how or by whom the remains were discovered and declined to release any further information.

“We are saddened by the discovery of the remains discovered yesterday, but we also realize a family can now possibly begin to heal,” Sheriff Jerry Goodin said.
