A man already registered for life as a sex offender against children has been arrested for kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old girl in central California.
Edgar Perez Medina, 35, posed as an 18-year-old man on social media to talk with the girl and made plans to meet her, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said.
When they met, he forced her into his car and drove her to secluded orchard and raped her. Then he drove her into the town of Turlock and dumped her out of his car.
Detectives quickly identified the rapist and learned that he was a lifetime sex registrant after being convicted of arranging to meet a child for sex in 2017.
Medina was arrested on Wednesday and charged with kidnapping with intent to rape, communicating with a minor with intent to commit sex acts, arraigning a meeting with a minor to commit sex acts, and possessions of child pornography.
He was arraigned on Friday and ordered held on a $4.8 million bail.
