Amazon Driver Kept on Delivering After Fatally Hitting Pedestrian

A 24-year-old driver for Amazon’s delivery service has been arrested following a deadly hit-and-run in north Georgia last week.

Cherokee County investigators say London Best struck 79-year-old Sandra Fitts as she left a cemetery in the area, WAGA reported.

Investigators found evidence — a vehicle part in the roadway — indicating she was hit by an Amazon delivery vehicle and spotted such a vehicle nearby, still making deliveries.

They arrested Best, charging him with vehicular homicide and hit-and-run resulting in a death. A search of his high-end Rivian delivery truck found drugs, and Best was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule 1 narcotic, and possession of drug-related objects.

“Had he not left the scene, the charges would be different. He likely wouldn’t have felonies,” said Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jay Baker.

Amazon sent out a statement saying that the company’s “thoughts are with the victims family and loved ones at this difficult time.” Best, they said, isn’t eligible to drive for the company pending the outcome of the investigation.

He is being held without bond.
