Jose Ibarra, has been found guilty of murder and other charges related to Laken Riley’s death.
Ibarra, 26, was convicted on three counts of felony murder, as well as malice murder, kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault with intent to rape, and “peeping Tom.” He faces a life sentence in prison, with no chance of parole, CBS News reports.
Officials revealed that Ibarra, an undocumented Venezuelan immigrant, illegally entered the United States in 2022 but was allowed to remain while working on his immigration case. It sparked heated discussions over border laws this year.
Athens-Clarke County Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard wrapped up a series of hearings that began last week with his ruling.
As previously reported by CrimeOnline, Ibara attacked and killed 22-year-old Laken Riley in February while she was out for a jog in Athens.
At the time, Riley was studying at Augusta University College of Nursing.
