Michigan Mom Charged With Trying to Kill Daughter, Throwing Her Headlong Down Flight of Stairs, Strangling Her

A Michigan woman arrested earlier this month and charged with assault with intent to murder apparently attacked her own daughter, throwing the girl headfirst down a flight of stairs, choking her, and slashing her with a knife.

Jennifer Vargas was arrested on November 8 after Michigan State Police responded to a call at Vargas’s Traverse City home just before midnight and found the victim and the suspect in the home’s driveway, MLive reported.

Troopers described the victim as a a woman and said she had visible bitemarks and a minor cut on her hand from a struggle with Vargas. She also said she lost conciousness several times during the assault.

But WPBN/WGTU filed a Freedom of Information Act request and learned that Vargas was also charged with first degree child abuse and that the victim was her daughter, although the age of the girl was not provided.

According to the documents, after Vargas threw her down the stairs, the girl pretended to be unconscious and then ran to a bedroom when her mother turned away. As she tried to open a window to escape, Vargas broke down the door, pinned her to the bed, and began choking her, telling her, “she was going to be sacrificed.”

The entire assault, the victim said, lasted for about an hour.

MSN said the victim was treated on the scene by emergency medical personnel and then taken to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for further evaluation.

Vargas was booked in the Grand Traverse County Jail with a $250,000 bond. She is due in court again on December 2.
