Colorado prosecutors filed new charges against a dentist charged with poisoning his wife on Friday, a day after his trial was delayed when his attorney abruptly withdrew from the case.

Prosecutors said on Friday they had filed to add two solicition charges against James Craig, one solicition to commit first degree murder and the other solicitation to commit first degree perjury, KUSA reported.

Craig had been set to go on trial for the murder of Angela Craig on Thursday, but the trial was postponed after his lawyer requested to withdraw from the case, citing a “professional conflict,” as CrimeOnline reported After a hearing on the request on Thursday, the judge granted it.

The attorney, Harvey Steinberg, cited two reasons for his request, KUSA said: “The client persists in a course of action involving the lawyer’s services that the lawyer reasonably believes is criminal or fraudulent” and  the “client insists upon taking action that the lawyer considers repugnant or  with which the lawyer has a fundamental disagreement.”

No further details were revealed.

Craig has already pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and solicitation to commit tampering with physical evidence.

Angela Craig, a 43-year-old mother of six, died in March 2023 from poisoning with cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a substance commonly found in over-the-counter eye drops. The dentist allegedly bought the cyanide but claimed his wife was suicidal and asked him to do so.

Craig allegedly flew his orthodontist lover to Denver from Texas while his wife was in the hospital dying.
