An 18-year-old Michigan man has been charged with burning down the family home of his ex-girlfriend.
Cameron Spencer has been charged with four counts of attempted murder, one count of second degree arson, one count of home invasion, and two counts of malicious destruction of property.
The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office said four people in the home at the time of the fire early Sunday morning, and all four got out safely.
Investigators say a child woke up a few hours before the fire broke out, telling adults he heard strange noises and had seen someone hiding in the home. The adults looked around and found nothing amiss, so everyone went back to bed. At about 3:30 a.m., the same child woke up again and this time alerted the family that the house was on fire.
“While getting out of the burning home, a suspect was seen running away from the home,” the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators brought Spencer in for questioning after they learned from a neighboring county that deputies there had handled an accident nearby involving him early Sunday morning.
Spencer was arrested and arraigned on Tuesday.
