DEVELOPING: Missing Grandmom Possibly Fell in 30-Foot Sinkhole While Searching for Cat

A Pennsylvania woman who vanished on Monday is believed to have fallen into a sinkhole.

WTAE reported that Elizabeth Pollard, 64, was last seen in Union Township. Her 5-year-old granddaughter was found in a car 15 to 20 feet from where she was last seen.

According to WPXI, it is believed Pollard was looking for her missing cat when she disappeared. Public Relations Officer Steve Limani said Pollard created the sinkhole while walking around as it was not there prior.

Limani said it is warm in the sinkhole and oxygen levels are good.

“Once you get below the surface, the hole gets significantly wider,” he explained.

According to WPXI, listening devices and cameras are being used at the sinkhole. While no noise was detected, the camera reportedly caught a glimpse of a shoe.

A fire official said there are mines in the area, though it is unclear whether this sinkhole is related to any mines. A construction company is helping with the ongoing search.
