KNTX reports that Sanchez, with no previous criminal record, was arrested on charges of negligent firearm storage and felony child endangerment, but has since posted bail.
“It’s difficult to comprehend that a two-and-a-half-year-old could have the strength to manipulate a firearm,” Lt. Paul Cervantes said..
Mina’s sister, Jessica Rodriguez, stated to KFSN that Sanchez disregarded his girlfriend’s requests to avoid having a gun in the house.
“Now because of her boyfriend’s carelessness, his arrogance, his irresponsibility, and neglecting my sister’s wishes of never having a gun in her house, she’s gone forever,” said Rodriguez in the statement. “My sister didn’t deserve this.
Authorities are still investigating the incident and are consulting with the district attorney’s office to decide on potential charges related to Mina’s death.
