A 67-year-old Florida man “tragically took his own life” after he’d already killed one other person and seriously wounded another.
Newell Mock did not physically harm two small children, ages 5 and 7, who were sleeping in the Gulf County home at the time of the shooting, Panama City Police said.
Investigators said they got multiple calls about shots fired just before midnight Friday and arrived to find Mock on the front porch of the home.
“As officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, Mr. Mock tragically took his own life,” police said.
Officers entered the home and found “a deceased male” and “a female who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.” She was taken to a local hospital. Police did not provide names or ages for the victims.
Investigators say Mock was the only shooter in the incident and “there is no ongoing threat to the community.”
They asked witnesses to call them at 850-872-3100, or report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 850-785-TIPS.
