Mississippi Babysitter Beats Children, Killing 2-Year-Old & Severely Injuring Baby

A 24-year-old Mississippi babysitter received a life sentence for killing a 2-year-old boy in her care and seriously injuring his infant sister.

According to FOX 13 Memphis, Circuit Judge Michael P. Mills Jr. sentenced Makallie Durham to life without parole on Friday after she pleaded guilty to capital murder in the child’s death.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Durham struck the two victims intentionally on their faces or heads between September 9 and September 12, 2022. Court documents indicated that Durham beat the children over the course of multiple days.

Medics arrived at a home in Corinth, around 9 p.m. on September 13, 2022, for a report of an unresponsive child. Deputies at the scene found the 2-year-old boy with bruising and marks on his body. First responders rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Responders also found the 11-month-old girl and believed she had suffered multiple injuries that have not been described publicly. The girl was also transported to the regional hospital before both victims were sent to a children’s hospital about 100 miles away in Memphis.

Police arrested Durham shortly after, according to the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office.

“She will not be eligible for parole or any other form of release from incarceration,” the First Circuit District Attorney’s Office said in a news release on Faxebook..
