Four months after 33-year-old Stephanie Campbell was found shot to death on te side of a dirt road on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina police have made an arrest for her murder.
Anthony Alfrado Brown, 41, was already in jail, charged in an armed robbery earlier on the day Campbell’s body was found, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities had “quickly identified Brown as the suspect” in the robbery, and he was arrested two days later.
Now, in addition to charges relating to the robbery of a convenience store on Lady’s Island, Brown has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violence crime.
According to the Island Packet, Brown was seen on surveillance video taking $176 and about $45 worth of merchandise from the Circle K store and fleeing in a pickup truck.
The sheriff’s office said that Brown was identified “early in the investigation” as one of the last people to see Campbell alive. They did not, however, explain why it took four months to charge him with the crime or say how Brown and Campbell were connected.
