A 39-year-old Maine woman has been charged with murder after a 14-year-old boy was found dead in Kennebec County.
Maine State Police said that a woman made an in-person report about an incident at her home in Sidney just before 5:30 a.m. Friday at the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, according to WMTW. Deputies there contacted the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office because the home was in that county.
Deputies conducted a well-being check at the home and found the boy dead outside. An autopsy determined that the boy died from asphyxiation, manual strangulation, and sharp force injury.
Maine State Police detectives launched an investigation and arrested Megan McDonald just before 2 p.m. According to WCHS, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said McDonald made the incident report in Androscoggin County.
The teen’s identity has not been released.
Regional School Unit 18 Superintendent Carl Gartley said Friday morning that a Messalonskee High School student had died without naming the student, WMTW reported. Messalonskee serves students from Sidney and several unincorporated communities of Kennebec County.
