Massachusetts police are reportedly investigating the death of a woman found in her home last week as a homicide.
According to WCVB, Boston police performing a wellness check discovered Shantel Gillespie, 30, deceased in her apartment on December 12. Though police said on Thursday that Gillespie is a possible homicide victim, her family said domestic violence is involved.
“While we are still awaiting a cause and manner of death determination from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, we have reason to believe that Ms. Gillespie’s death is a homicide. Preliminary information indicates that this was not a random act and that residents of the building and members of the public are not in danger,” Boston police and Suffolk County prosecutors said in a joint statement.
Officials noted that they do not believe the public is in danger. A suspect has not yet been publicly identified.
