A 16-year-old Nebraska boy has been charged with gunning down his 20-year-old brother after mistaking him for an attacker early Tuesday morning.
Lincoln Police were called to the Bridgeport Apartments at around 12:30 a.m. and found the older man suffering from multiple gunshots outside the apartment, KOLN reported. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he died.
Investigators learned that the two brothers had arrived at the apartment at about the same time but in separate cars. The teen told police he saw someone in dark clothing and feared for his safety, so he opened fire.
The boy has been charged with manslaughter and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Police said both brothers were armed, and the victim’s weapon was recovered at the scene. They did not say if he had drawn the weapon.
Police have not released the names of the victim or his killer.
