One person is dead and an 8-year-old girl is missing after an SUV flipped into a rain-swollen drainage ditch Tuesday morning and was swept away.
Sherman Police said a family of six was traveling from Durant to McKinney when their Chevrolet Traverse flipped into the water and carried alongide the US-75 service road until it stopped just shy of Houston St, KXII reported.
Four people were rescued, but the girl and another person were missing. A body was recovered Tuesday afternoon, and the search continues for the child, who was last seen wearing a black jacket and pink pajamas.
Searchers were out all day Tuesday and Wednesday and into Thursday morning, but Sherman Police Lt. Samuel Boyle said no sightings have been made.
“We haven’t had much luck,” Boyle said late Thursday. “We aren’t able to do much at night right now with the way the weather is.”
“There’s a lot of overgrowth, there’s a lot of still-standing water, and now we’re getting more rain which is gonna add to that,”he said.
Police paused the search at about 6 p.m. Thursday and plan to get back out at 7 Friday morning.
Investigators have not named the victims of the crash.
