Family Dispute at Phoenix Airport Erupts into Gunfire Christmas Night

Four people were wounded Wednesday night in wild incident at a restaurant outside security checkpoints at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

Police and fire responders found three people shot at the restaurant in Terminal 4, AZFamily.com reported. A woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and two men were in stable condition.

Police later located a man and a juvenile in the parking garage and detained them. The man had at least one cut or possible stab wound and was in stable condition, police said.

Investigators said a group of people at the restaurant got into a fight and one of them drew a gun and started shooting.

“I do believe that this was a family dispute that escalated,” Phoenix police Sgt. Mayra Reeson told reporters, according to The Associated Press.

No one outside the family was hurt.

The incident took place shortly before 10 p.m., and the terminal security checkpoint and the airport train were temporarily closed but reopened Thursday morning.

Two hours after the shooting, Phoenix police detained a man who arrived armed to the airport, AZFamily said. He told police he’d gotten a text about an “active shooter” and decided to go handle the situation himself. Police said the situation was “unrelated” to the restaurant shooting.

Police name any of the suspects or say what charges they might be facing.
