A Missouri man has been charged with killing his son after he and the son’s fiancee got into an argument on Christmas Eve.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said Harold Luster, 61, retrieved a firearm from his home and threatened the fiancee before shooting 26-year-old Kevin Ward in the head.
Luster has been charged with murder and armed criminal action, The Leader reported.
Deputies were called to the scene just before 9 p.m. and found Ward dead from a gunshot wound. The fiancee told police that Luster was upset with her because he believed his wife was having an affair and that she was withholding information about it from him.
“Do you want to get shot?” he asked her as he retrieved his gun, according to a probably cause statement.
The Lexington Herald-Leader said Ward told his fiancee to run and call 911 if anything happened. As she left, she said, she heard Ward say, “You’re not going to shoot her” and then Luster reply, “You wanna get shot instead?”
Moments later, Luster fired and Ward fell dead.
Police said that a neighbor’s surveillance camera captured the shooting. The video showed Luster raise his arm, followed by a muzzle flash. The victim falls to the ground, according to the probable cause statement.
