Developing: Human Jaw Bone Found on Long Island Beach

Two New York beachgoers on Long Island stumbled upon a human jawbone while walking along the shore Monday.

According to the New York Post, the beachgoers discovered the bone at Smith Point County Park in Shirley around 5 p.m. and reported it to a park attendant. The attendant alerted police.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner analyzed the bone, which was determined to be human. An identity is pending.

“I’ve lived in the area 50 years. I love the area.” a local resident told Patch.

“Does it have its ups and downs? I don’t know what area doesn’t. To me, it’s beautiful with good neighbors.”

The county’s Homicide Squad is continuing the investigation. Detectives urge anyone with information to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
