California police arrested a man for the stabbing deaths of three of his family members — two of them children — Thursday night.
Baldwin Park police said they were called to the scene just before 7 p.m. and found an 8-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy, and a 44-year-old woman dead from multiple stab wounds, KABC reported.
Investigators took a 23-year-old man into custody and said he was related to the victims but did not name him. They said he initially tried to drive away from the scene but was detained after he crashed in a cul de sac.
The victims were identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office as 8-year-old Mia Chantelle Narvaez, 16-year-old Paul Sebastian Manangan, and 44-year-old Rona Nate.
Neighbor Nathan Garcia said he “heard the little girl screaming coming out and crying for help, saying ‘Someone call 911. My brother stabbed my mom in the back. I saw blood.”
Neighbors said there were five members of the family and that they were from the Philippines. Police have not revealed a motive.
According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, the suspect has been charged with murder.
