A North Carolina woman arrested Monday for allegedly attempting to murder her child has an extensive criminal history, according to police.
Raleigh police arrested 28-year-old Matquisha Alexis Jones after she reportedly placed her child in a chokehold and pointed a gun at them in April 2023.
An arrest warrant obtained by WRAL states that Jones is responsible for “multiple instances of physical, psychological, and emotional abuse,” which have caused the victim to suffer from long-term post-traumatic stress. Jones faces several charges, including attempted first-degree murder, assault by strangulation, assault by pointing a gun, and felony child abuse.
Her criminal history spans over a decade. In 2013, she was charged with shoplifting. In 2016, she faced two charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon. In 2017, she was charged with fraud, and the following year, she was charged with identity theft.
In October 2023, police charged her with communicating threats.
In the most recent case, she is charged with attempted murder and child abuse.
