A New Jersey man allegedly murdered his fiancée late last week, a day after he announced their engagement.
NJ.com reported that Jose Melo, 52, fatally stabbed Naket Jadix Trinidad Maldonado, 31, at an Elizabeth home on December 30. A day earlier, Melo reportedly posted a video on Facebook in which he proposes to Maldonado, who apparently accepts.
State records indicated that Melo is a tier-two sex offender with a 2010 conviction for aggravated criminal sexual contact. In that case, he threatened a woman with a box cutter and sexually assaulted her.
Union County prosecutor said Melo is charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
