Michigan police are searching a landfill on Monday for a missing woman who vanished earlier this month and is now presumed dead.
WXYZ reported that a search for Ashley Elkins, 30, is underway at Pine Tree Acres Landfill in Lenox Township. Elkins’ ex-boyfriend, Deandre Booker, 32, was arrested on Wednesday for lying to police a day after Elkins’ car was found in Roseville, four miles from her apartment.

Sources told WXYZ and WJBK that police spent the weekend removing dirt to prepare for the latest landfill search. They reportedly hope to excavate a specific area to locate Elkins’ body.
Elkins vanished on January 2. Booker has not been formally charged with Elkins’ death, even though he was considered the prime suspect. He allegedly lied to authorities about his location and Elkins’ video. Surveillance footage was said to have contradicted his claims, according to WJBK.
Booker reportedly searched online for the fastest route from Flint, Michigan, to Ohio, and whether blood is traceable. He also inquired about how to beat a polygraph test, according to prosecutors.
Police also seized a dumpster at Booker’s apartment amid their ongoing search for Elkins. Booker remains jailed on a $250,000 bond.
