An investigation is underway in Utah after decomposing human remains were discovered near a trail on Sunday.
KSL reported that a hiker found the remains near the Bone Wash Trail and Elephant Arch hiking area. Washington City police and other law enforcement processed the remains — which they described as in various stages of decomposition, suggesting they had been there for an extended period.
According to KSTU, detectives identified the remains as a man and contacted his family. Officials said foul play is not suspected in his death.
Police did not publicly identify the deceased man per a request from his family.
