Parents, Grandparents Arrested After Children Found Strapped Into Car Seat and Baby Swing for Days

The Kentucky parents of a toddler and an infant and their paternal grandparents have been arrested after police found the children strapped into a car seat and baby swing, apparently for days.

“The children were found covered in urine and feces that appeared to be several days old,” an arrest citation says, according to The State Journal.

The children’s mother, 21-year-old Megan Edgin, was arrested on January 2 and charged with enhanced first-degree criminal abuse, second-degree cruelty to animals, and dogs to be vaccinated against rabies.

According to the Journal, police were initially sent to the home to pick up the animals — three dogs and a cat. Two of the dogs were found in emaciated condition, with one in a cage with no food or water and filled with feces that had stained the dog’s coat. Egdin reportedly told police the animal was never taken outside.

While investigating the animal situation, the deputies noted the two children, who appeared to be “severely malnourished,” WDKY reported.

A week later, deputies returned to the home and arrested the children’s father, 23-year-old Christian Dunaway, and his parents, Doug Dunaway, 51, and Terrie Dunaway, 43. They all face the same charges as the mother.

The arrest reports did not provide a status on the children or the animals.
