WV Man Captured 48 Hours After Abducting Pregnant Wife at Gunpoint

A West Virginia man police say kidnapped his pregnant, estranged wife on Tuesday morning has been captured more than 24 hours after he was located in eastern Kentucky but got away from state police there on foot.

Derek Orme, 37, allegedly abducted Chelcia Orme, 33, from a truck in Lincoln County, West Virginia, after firing shots at the vehicle with multiple people inside, WVNS reported.

According to WCHS, Orme fired multiple shots into the engine block at about 2:15 a.m. and then forced his wife out at gunpoint and took off with her.

Warrants were issued for Derek Orme’s arrest on charges of wanton endangerment, kidnapping, and destruction of property, West Virginia State Police said, but they were unable to find him.

Kentucky State Police located both Ormes at a home in Grayson, Kentucky, Tuesday afternoon, but he fled the scene on foot and got away. Chelcia Orme had not been physically harmed and was returned to her home in West Virginia.

Early Thursday morning, West Virginia State Police found him back in Huntington, some 30 to 40 miles away from Grayson, and arrested him. They did not say how he got from Kentucky back to West Virginia.
