Texas Man Shoots Younger Brother to Death After Hours of Family Arguments

Hours of family altercations in Houston ended early Tuesday with a man shooting his younger brother to death.

Houston Police said they were first called for a family disturbance the home on the city’s northwest side — where the two brothers lived with their mother, the younger man’s girlfriend, and their baby — at about 6 p.m. on Monday, KRIV reported.

Investigators said the younger man, in his 20s, and his girlfriend got into an argument over a phone, when drew the older man, in his 30s, in. No overt violence took place, no one wanted to file charges, and the younger man accepted a ride to another location on the northside so he could cool off. He did not cool off.

A few hours later, police were called to the home again. This time, the younger man had returned and threatened his girlfriend, although at leaset one family member denied there were any threats, and that they younger man had simply come to pick up work clothes and then left, KPRC said. Again, no one wanted to file charges, but police stayed on the scene for a short while to be sure no one wanted to file charges.

A third and final call came in at about 1:20 a.m. about a possible assault. Before that call, however, medics had been called to the home because the mother had reportedly fainted. When they arrived, the shooting had taken place.

According to police, the younger brother had again returned to the home demanding that he be allowed to stay with the girlfriend he had threatened and their baby. While the family argued, the mother fainted and hit her head when she fell.

That led to a deeper argument between the brothers over whose fault it was that the mother fell and was hurt. In the course of the argument, the older man shot his brother in the torso. Responders attempted life-saving measures, but he was declared dead at the scene.

Police said no one else was injured, and everyone involved, except the dead man, is cooperating.

Police have not said if they will file charges against the gunman and did not provide an update on the mother’s condition.
