A Florida lawyer was arrested last week after he smashed a dinner plate over the head of the father of two girls who cut in front of him in the prime rib line at a wedding reception.
Mark Roher, 52, was charged with agravated battery with a deadly weapon in the January 18 incident at the Boca Lago Country Club, BocaNewsNow.com reported..
A police report says that the victim allowed his two young daughters to join him in the line ahead of Roher, who took offense. While Roher initially invoked his Miranda rights and refused to speak with police, he later said that he had pushed the victim but denied hitting him with the dinner plate.
The victim’s story, however, was corroborated by witnesses, including a worker at the event “who said in a sworn statement that (they) saw the whole interaction from the start.”
The worker said the victim turned away from Roher “in an attempt to ignore him and this is when Mark walked up to him with a plate and hit the victim on the head with the plate,” which shattered.
The witness said that Roher shoved the victim and grabbed him by the collar while other people separated them.
Miami New Times reported that Roher complained to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office that he was injured as well, saying he “had several injuries of where he was grabbed and escorted away,” the police report said.
Roher also made of point of saying the wedding reception was a “dry event” and he had not been drinking.
