An Indiana mother and stepfather were charged with child neglect after they refused to pick up their 13-year-old daugther from a hospital.
The girl had brought herself to the hospital for a mental health check after having a physical altercation with her mother, identified as 36-year-old Amanda Osmon, WFIE reported.
Evansville Police said a social worker at St. Vincent hospital tried to reach the parents Saturday night at about 7 p.m., but Osmon wasn’t answering the phone. The social worker reached 41-year-old Jeffery Scheda, the stepfather, who hung up on her when she asked the mother to call.
An hour later, Osmon did call, sounding agitated and arguing with the social worker about picking up the child.
“I’m not dealing with this s*** tonight,” Osmon reportedly told the social worker, who said the mother sounded drunk. Osmon hung up on the social worker as well, according to WEHT.
Police arrived at the home just before 2 a.m. Sunday and said that Scheda and Osmon admitted they’d been drinking and had passed out, WFIE said. They also lied about their conversations with the social worker, police said, and were arrested.
They were released on a $1,500 bonds.
