GRAPHIC: Tree Trimmer Is Decapitated When He’s Caught Head-First in Wood Chipper

Florida officials said a man was killed on Tuesday in a wood-chipper accident at a town hall.

WPEC reported that the contracted tree trimming vendor with Carlton’s Tree Service was on a project at Ocean Ridge Town Hall and Police Department property when the accident occurred. The man, who has not been publicly identified, was decapitated.

Lynne Ladner, the Town Manager of Ocean Ridge, told WPEC that it is believed the man was pulled head-first into the wood chipper. He was reportedly trapped in the machine up to his shoulders.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration responded to the scene.

Ladner explained that while the wood chipper had an emergency shut-off mechanism, the man was dead by the time it was activated.

“I am devastated. It is a horrible loss of life,” she said.
