A 22-year-old San Diego County man has been arrested for the murder of his newborn son.

Medics and deputies responded to a call about a battery early Wednesday afternoon and found the infant unconscious on the living room floor, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene, and David Ruiz was taken into custody.

The sheriff’s department said that the circumstances surrounding the murder were still unclear, but investigators were “working to gather more information.”

The baby had “apparent trauma” to his head.
